Blind Nil
Blind Nil is a nil bid made before you have seen your hand: double the reward, double the risk.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”With Blind Nil on, every hand is dealt face down. You can look at your cards whenever you like, but while they are still face down, your bidding turn offers Blind nil alongside Look at cards. Any ordinary bid needs a look first.
After the bidding, everyone’s cards are turned up and play is normal.
Scoring
Section titled “Scoring”| Result | Points |
|---|---|
| Blind nil bidder takes no tricks | +200 |
| Blind nil bidder takes any trick | -200 |
Like an ordinary nil, the blind nil bidder’s tricks still count towards their partner’s contract (and towards bags).
When to try it
Section titled “When to try it”It is a catch-up bid: 400 points separate making it from missing it. The bots only reach for it when their team is 200 or more behind, and more often the further behind they are.
Combinations
Section titled “Combinations”Blind Nil combines with Blind 10 and with Nilly (where a blind nil satisfies the one-nil-per-team requirement). It cannot be combined with Mirror, which has no bidding.
