Single Dummy

Single Dummy is a two-player Bridge variant built on the same table as Double Dummy: two players side by side, each with a dummy opposite.

  • When the cards are dealt, one of the two dummies, picked at random, is turned face up for the auction. Both players can see it while they bid.
  • After the auction, the declarer chooses which dummy to partner: the one they have seen, or the hidden one. If they take the other side’s dummy, the two dummy hands swap places so the chosen one sits opposite them.
  • Then play proceeds as in Double Dummy: the player to the declarer’s left leads, both dummies are turned face up after that opening lead, and each player plays their own hand and their own dummy.

The choice is the heart of the variant. Bidding high on the strength of the face-up dummy only works if you are the one who ends up with it.

Scoring is ordinary rubber Bridge.
