Terms of Use
Effective date: July 26, 2026
House Rules Cards (the “Service”) is operated by EvDev Studios, LLC (“we,” “us,” “our”), an Ohio limited liability company. The Service includes the House Rules Cards website, the rules wiki, and the House Rules Cards mobile applications.
By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
Section titled “1. Eligibility”You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian. The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly allow them to register.
2. Your account
Section titled “2. Your account”You are responsible for your account credentials and for everything that happens under your account. Provide accurate information when you register, keep your password secure, and tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these Terms, that we reasonably believe is being used to cheat or abuse other players, or where required by law.
3. Acceptable use
Section titled “3. Acceptable use”When using the Service, you agree not to:
- cheat, exploit bugs, or manipulate game outcomes, ratings, statistics, or virtual currency;
- use bots, scripts, automation, or any client other than ours to play games or interact with our servers;
- collude with other players to manipulate rated games or tournaments;
- harass, threaten, impersonate, or abuse other players;
- upload or publish content that is unlawful, hateful, sexually explicit, or infringes someone else’s rights;
- attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or our infrastructure, or interfere with its normal operation;
- reverse engineer, scrape, or resell any part of the Service except where that restriction is prohibited by law.
We provide in-app tools to block and report other players. We review reports and may act on them at our discretion, but we do not promise any particular outcome.
4. User content
Section titled “4. User content”The Service lets you create content — usernames, display names, profile pictures, club names and descriptions, club chat messages, custom rulesets, and rule requests (“User Content”).
You keep ownership of your User Content. By submitting it, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, adapt, and display it as needed to operate and promote the Service. If you publish a custom ruleset, you additionally grant every other user a license to view, use, and import that ruleset in their own games.
You are responsible for your User Content and represent that you have the rights to submit it. We may remove User Content that violates these Terms or that we otherwise consider inappropriate for the Service.
5. Virtual currency and purchases
Section titled “5. Virtual currency and purchases”Gems are the Service’s only in-app currency. Gems and any items bought with them (including cosmetics and the ad-free upgrade):
- are a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use a digital feature of the Service — not property;
- have no cash value, cannot be redeemed for money, and cannot be sold, traded, or transferred outside the Service;
- may be modified, re-priced, or discontinued as the Service evolves.
Purchases are processed by third parties: Stripe on the web, and the Apple App Store or Google Play on mobile. We never receive or store your full payment card details. Purchases are final and non-refundable except where refunds are required by law or by the applicable app store’s policies; mobile purchases are subject to the refund process of the store you bought them through.
Unused gems and entitlements are forfeited if your account is terminated for violating these Terms, and when the Service is discontinued.
6. Advertising
Section titled “6. Advertising”The Service is supported in part by advertising, including Google AdSense on the web and Google AdMob in the mobile apps. Advertisers are third parties and we do not endorse their products. You can remove banner advertising from the app by purchasing the ad-free upgrade. How advertising relates to your data is described in our Privacy Policy.
7. The games and the house-rules system
Section titled “7. The games and the house-rules system”Card games such as Hearts, Euchre, Spades, and Bridge are traditional games in the public domain; the community variants described on this wiki are likewise not owned by us. What we own is our implementation: the software, the game engine, the rule builder, the site and app design, our text and artwork, and the House Rules Cards name and logo.
We may change, add, or remove games, rules, and features at any time. Ratings, statistics, tournaments, and match history are provided as-is and may be reset or recalculated if we find errors or abuse.
8. Availability
Section titled “8. Availability”We aim to keep the Service running, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. We may suspend, limit, or discontinue any part of the Service, including for maintenance, at any time. Games in progress may be interrupted by outages, deploys, or disconnections.
9. Disclaimers
Section titled “9. Disclaimers”THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR AVAILABLE AT ANY PARTICULAR TIME.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
10. Limitation of liability
Section titled “10. Limitation of liability”TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, EVDEV STUDIOS, LLC WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS.
11. Indemnity
Section titled “11. Indemnity”You agree to indemnify and hold harmless EvDev Studios, LLC and its members and personnel from any claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of your User Content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms or of any law or third-party right.
12. Changes to these Terms
Section titled “12. Changes to these Terms”We may update these Terms as the Service changes. When we do, we will revise the effective date above and, for material changes, give notice in the app or by email. Continuing to use the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
13. Governing law and disputes
Section titled “13. Governing law and disputes”These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You and we agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Ohio for any dispute that is not otherwise resolved, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to protect its intellectual property.
14. Apple App Store and Google Play
Section titled “14. Apple App Store and Google Play”If you obtained a House Rules Cards app through the Apple App Store or Google Play, the following also applies:
- These Terms are between you and EvDev Studios, LLC only — not with Apple or Google, who are not responsible for the app or its content.
- Apple and Google have no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- Apple and Google are not responsible for addressing any claim you or a third party has relating to the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory non-compliance, or consumer protection claims.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
15. General
Section titled “15. General”These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
