Double Dummy

Double Dummy is a way to play Bridge with two people. It is one of several “honeymoon” Bridge variants; this one keeps the full Bridge auction and play.

Four hands are dealt as usual. The two players sit next to each other, and opposite each player sits their dummy: a hand they will play themselves, as their partner.

  • Nobody sees a dummy during the auction, not even its owner.
  • The two players bid against each other with the normal Bridge auction. The dummies never bid (their turns are passes), so the auction ends when one player’s bid is answered by the other’s pass.

Once the contract is set, each player looks at their own dummy, privately. The player to the declarer’s left leads, as in ordinary Bridge; that can be the opponent’s dummy, played by its owner.

After the opening lead both dummies are turned face up for both players. Each player plays their own hand and, on its turns, their own dummy. Scoring is ordinary rubber Bridge.

Casual.
